Hi! I was in touch with Ruth, and before that Teresa, and before that Matt, who initiated the project, The Employee, that is connected to FCG and why I am writing to you.
I look forward to making your acquaintance, and I apologize for not having reached out earlier, but it felt like it made more sense to wait until there were concrete updates before drawing you in.
I am going to avoid filling you in on all the background to the project in this email since it would become another book, but also in the hope that Ruth told you about this work and FCG’s relation to it. In case this is coming out of the clear blue sky and Ruth didn’t give you background info please let me know and I’ll give you a wider perspective.
Back when Teresa was directing the gallery, I conducted a year-long performance that has developed into a publication that FCG is co-publishing (with Art Met as the principal publisher). In this regard, FCG has no real financial obligations, but I will send you up to 30 copies to sell in the gallery (for which we can make a small agreement).
At this point, after literally years of work, the publication is finally (almost) ready for lift off! It's been a long road, but my co-editor Lauren Wetmore and I couldn’t be more happy with how the project has evolved and this resulting document.
I’m delighted to share with you the attached penultimate proof for review. You will see that it contains our final notes to our graphic designers House 9 Design, who are back from holiday 27 January. Please check it over. We’d be grateful if you could send any additional notes you would like included before 24 January (so I have the weekend to incorporate them). We’re here if you have any questions and are happy to hop on a call.
As we are looking to print at the end of January, Josh and I are also beginning to plan launches, and would love to collaborate with you on this if you would be interested in being involved in this as well.
We have also been thinking about presenting a panel on The Employee, including several contributors, at the upcoming ARCA conference in Ottawa this June. If FCG is planning to be there, this could be a great opportunity to bring the book’s community together.
