edits to Work Becomes Her

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com> To: Jessica Antony <███████████████████████ >

dear Jessica,
I just reviewed your edits to the overall essay, and am sending back comments and revisions (file title: JS updates).
When I checked the Asher sections in the separate attachment I realized that you edited an older version than the one Lauren sent to you most recently with the go-ahead to edit ((file title "with MAF edits) = with Michael Asher Foundation edits). I am sorry for this confusion, but I am reattaching this version below to be newly edited.
Let me know if this is ok, and thanks as always for your careful work.
warmly,
Josh

Hi Josh,

Thanks for this quick turnaround. My apologies for the document confusion - I’m not sure how that happened, as I thought I was editing that version Lauren emailed! I’ll edit the version you’ve attached here and get it back to you as soon as possible.

As for the capitalization of art movements, I was using a down-style in keeping with Chicago style (which keeps capitalization to a minimum). The Association of Art Editors notes that these movements, periods, and styles are often left lower case when using Chicago, but that’s just a style preference (and really, it’s your piece, nobody is beholden to capitalization rules!). I’m happy to reverse those edits.

I’ll have both documents back to you within the next week.

Best,
Jessica

dear Jessica,
thank you. I am sorry for any confusing communication on our end with the document mix-up, and for the extra work that it has caused.
Re: capitalization, as a reader (more than as a writer), and as someone living in Germany where every other word is capitalized, I find the capitalization of art movements to be the norm. I understand, especially with something as nebulous as Conceptual art, the intention to reduce unnecessary capitalizations, but I find in this case that it is useful to distinguish a movement from an adjective.
I also appreciate the opportunity to discuss this as a decision, rather than a habit.
warmly,
Josh

Hi Josh,

No problem, these things happen, and thankfully that section is relatively short.

And for the capitalization - yes, this makes a lot of sense! I’ll edit accordingly.

Best,
Jessica

Hi Josh,

Attached is the clean version of the longer doc (there’s one comment left in there as a response to yours), and the edited version of the updated section on Asher.

Please let me know if you need anything else or have any questions.

Do you have a sense of when the final piece from Lauren will be ready and if it is indeed around 1500 words?

Best,
Jessica

dear Jessica,
I just went through the documents. I am just waiting for Lauren's feedback in case there is anything for you to finalize, but for now, thank you (belatedly) for your work on these!
As Lauren mentioned, we are hoping that you will have her intro by the end of the month!!
warmly,
Josh
