HI both,

Vinyl looks good! I heard back from Meg today about streaming from both IG Live and YouTube simultaneously, below is her reply:

Yes I did - but there doesn't seem to be an organic way to do simultaneous multi streams... There are a lot of services that make it possible, but these are all subscription required services.

The best way to achieve this would to likely be using multiple devices each going to the desired platform, but again that can have barriers. What exactly are you looking to stream and for how long?

dear Teresa and Camille,
I hope you both are doing well.
First of all, thanks Teresa for this information about livestreaming. I will think about it, but my preference is to keep it simple and just livestream to youtube.
I had already written the email below, but hadn't sent it because I wanted to finish the publicity text. I think I will just send that in a separate subsequent email, though.
I had wanted to just put on record some of the details around the plans we made for the upcoming event.
We agreed to schedule the 'performance' on Tue. Jan. 26, from 10:30 – 12:30 (Toronto time / 11:30 – 1:30 Halifax time / 4:30 – 6:30 Berlin time). Camille, Teresa, would you be comfortable extending this an extra hour (until 1:30 / 2:30 / 7:30??) I feel that 3 hours is more substantial... but if you're not into it, 2 hours is also fine.
The event will be hosted by FCG.
We will circulate publicity for this event via email, facebook and instagram, publishing the event info on Jan. 15.
I am attaching screenshots of the website banners for the funding bodies, which Teresa can use for graphics for the event.
I am finishing up a text that we can use for the publicity, which should also be used in the description of the youtube video / event archive. I will send this tomorrow at the latest.
Camille has already been in contact with NSCAD about getting wall-vinyl to mount behind her. During the performance, Camille should turn on her webcam and live broadcast. Other than keeping the camera online for the 2 / 3 hour-duration, there should be no other deviation from your regular working methods.
I would also like that we record the live event for documentation.
I think that those are the most important aspects for planning this, but if I have forgotten or overlooked anything, please let me know.
thank you so much for supporting this!
x
Josh

Hi both,

If your preference is to only stream on YouTube then that's great on FCG's end, no need to look into streaming simultaneously on IG Live.
While I think that the duration of the performance is more of a decision for you both as artist and performer, I'll just add my thoughts that 3 hours sounds good.
Thanks for sending these banners. I'll work on a couple of graphics and send them off to you both so we can make adjustments.
Camille—Great news about the price on the vinyl!
Josh—Looking forward to reading the publicity statement!

Hi both,

That sounds great! I'm open to doing a 3h live session, it doesn't change a lot for me.
The vinyl is ready and I'll pick it up by Friday!

Let me know if there is anything else I can do in the meantime.
Looking forward to it!

Best,

Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synnott (she/her) — Fundraiser/Grantwriter
The employment of a fundraiser/ grant-writer on behalf of Forest City Gallery is the artistic work of Joshua Schwebel. The employee is funded by a grant awarded to the artist by the Canada Council for the Arts. This email and subsequent correspondence may be included in documentation of the artwork.

dear both,
Below is my description that can be used to promote the event.
Great, great news that the vinyl is also happening! Also, very grateful Camille that you're ok with stretching it to 3 hours.

From my end, I am happy with the text as a representation of the work, but I'm not sure if I have forgotten anything in terms of logistics or logos, so that's where I am looking to you both for suggestions.
Once this text is finalized, then I guess the next step is for Teresa to create the event on FCG's FB / instagram. Teresa, if you would also share it through FCG's network as programming content, that would be great, and Camille, you are welcome to also share to your networks, but no pressure. I will share on facebook and insta through my accounts, and send it to people by email, but will do so once everything is formatted and approved.
I guess we'll see each other on Jan. 19, to figure out what Camille will be working on while on camera (said as Jenna in 30 Rock).

Conceptual artist Joshua Schwebel has hired a grant-writer whose task is to write funding applications on behalf of the Forest City gallery. The Employee, the project’s title, is both a one-year employment contract and an artwork contributing to the structural support of the Forest City Gallery, an artist run centre in London, Ontario, which, as one of Canada’s first artist-run centres, has been publicly funded for almost fifty years, yet only can support a single paid staff member.

The delegated set of tasks comprising the artist’s project are for the Employee to apply for grants and obtain additional funding for the Forest City Gallery. These tasks at once the performance of an artwork and productive work benefiting the gallery. Schwebel successfully obtained project funding from the Canada Council for the Arts to hire the Employee as a delegated performer of the artwork. Any funds successfully earned by way of the project will be incorporated into the gallery’s operating budget, and potentially used to augment its future workforce. The work externalizes grant-writing and the administrative-economic tasks associated with the financial survival of the gallery, rendering this unseen work into a supplementary durational performance enacted peripheral to the exhibition space.

On Tuesday, January 26 from 10:30am – 1:30pm (EST / UTC-5) The Employee, performed by Camille-Zoë Valcourt Synonott, will be livestreamed at the following link: (drop link here).

The artist gratefully acknowledges support from the Canada Council for the Arts, without which this work would not be possible.

Hi Josh,

This is great, thank you! I will circulate it on our networks.

We're having a bit of a difficult time making a graphic out of the banners for promotions. Everything we've tried turns out looking like very amateurish graphic design. Do you happen to have anything in mind, or do you simply want to use the banners 'as is' ? - see attached.

Let me know and I can start promoting ASAP!

hi Teresa,
yes, I see what you mean about the graphic.
Let me think about it and get back to you in an hour or so.
I really struggle with how to "sell" this project visually...

hi Teresa,
how would you feel about just using a photo of the facade of the gallery?
I know it's not exactly representative of the project, but it gives something to look at above the project description.
This is the one I had in mind...

Hi Josh,

This is a good contingency plan. I'll use this photo of the exterior for promotions. Thanks so much for your replies.
