Fwd: Follow-up

Josh Schwebel <privatejosh@gmail.com> To: Teresa Carlesimo <██████████████████████████ >, Matt Kyba <██████████████████ >

hey Teresa and Matt,
So Matt, see my next email for our version of what happened during the second interviews. But then I woke up this morning to this email from █████████ (below). And having just woken up, I wrote back without much reflection. I apologize, and should have checked in before making that move, but I was so looking forward to having the decision settled, and believed that █████████ would do a good job. ███ ███ █████████ ████ ███ ████████ █████ ████ ████ ████████. In any case, I haven't communicated with ████ ██ yet, ███ ██ █████████ ████ ██████████ ██ ████ ████ ██ █ ████ ████ I am just a bit confused and disappointed, and can't figure out what prompted █████████ to make this decision.
Let me know what you think.... sorry that this has gotten to this point.
x

Hi █████████,
I am really sorry to hear this.
I was just going to offer you the job today, and was feeling pretty secure about your abilities and our decision. You are my clear first choice of candidate.
Is there any chance I could change your mind?
I am sorry if something about the situation was not feeling good for you

Hey Josh!

Thanks again for the chat yesterday. I appreciated hearing more about the position and talking about some important things.

After some thought I would like to remove myself from consideration for the job. I think I may not be the exact right fit, for a few reasons, and vice versa.

I’m glad this makes your decision easier :)

I appreciated connecting with you on this and I hope the other candidate is successful and you enjoy working with them.

Maybe we will connect again in the future 🔮  🔭

Until then, stay well!
█████████

 Hi both,

This is really disappointing as well as a little bit confusing. I felt really positive and optimistic after our talk with █████████ and therefore I left the conversation feeling confident in our choice. Upon reflection, do you suspect anything in particular that might have been off-putting for her?

Let's see if and how she replies to you, Josh. Tuesday or Wednesday feels like a totally reasonable follow-up to a Friday afternoon interview, so I think it's okay that we're giving █████████ a chance to engage with you further about her concerns, and waiting to reply to ████

My best,

Teresa Carlesimo (she/her)

Hey Teresa,
I have the same questions. I felt secure after our conversation, and also was happy with the dynamic between the three of us.
I have no idea what or why she has decided this, and being unable to find a reason is unsettling. I hope that we can get more information, but it’s also possible that we will never really know.
I guess we will have to wait for a new response... ████ ████ ████ █ ██████ ███████████ ████████ ██ ████ ██ ███.

hey guys,
So I haven't heard anything further from █████████. █████ ███ █████████████ ██ ███████████ ███████, I think it is clear that we are hiring ████, and I actually now feel fine about that. ██ █████ ███ ███ ███ █ ███████ ██ ████ ███ ██ ██ ██ █████ Before I send these final emails, I just want to confirm that both of you accept this outcome, and that you feel ok about it.

Hi Josh,

Thank you for this update. ██ ███ ██████ ██ ████████ ███ █████████████ ███ ███████ █ ██████ █████ █████ ████ ████ ███ ███ ███████ ██ ███████. I don't think we have any other options, so agreed, it appears we're hiring ████. ██ █████ ███ ███ ███ ████ ███ ████ ██████ █ █████ ████ █████ ██ █████ ████ ██ ███ ██████████ ██ ████ ██████ ████ ██ ████ ██ █████ ███ ████ ████ ██████ ██ ████ ██ ████ █████ ██ █████ ███ ████████ ██████

Hi Teresa,
I completely agree █████ ███████ ██████ █ ██ ████ Maybe an explanation will come that turns this perception around, but for now, ███ █████ ████ ████ ██ ███████████ ██ ████ ████ ███ ███████ ███ ████ ██████ ██ ████ ███████ ██ ██ ██ █████████████ ██ █████████ ████ ███ █████ ██████ ███████████ ███ ██████ ████ ███ ██ █████ ███ ██ ██ █████████ █████ ██ ████ ██████ █████ ███████ ████ ██ █████ ██ █████ ███ ███ █████████ ██ ██ ██████
I do wish that we knew why she made this decision ██ ██ ██████ ████ ██ ████ ███ ████████ ██████████. But I suppose that that is her choice, and we can only move forward with the project and try to see things from a positive perspective?
If you want to talk about it on zoom or skype I would be happy to, and have time this evening (in about an hour or so).
It might help to just try to collectively guess why she made that choice?
I would appreciate a quick conversation to work it through a bit, but if you don’t have time, that is also fine.
Warmly,
Josh
