Hi Josh and Lauren,

Belated thanks again for all of your feedback. It all looks good to us!

Your pitch mock-up: when would you need this by?

Paper: Louis is now discussing with our printer about the best process for tests… We could send samples to you, but it would only be after Farah’s vacation. While Farah is away, if Louis and our publisher can get some tests done, Farah will want to review when she’s back (as of Oct 8).

Timeline: Now that the design is approved, the next phase of work begins. We need at least a month to create/layout a whole book, while juggling other shifting deadlines. When do you ideally want to launch the book? If you are thinking about January/February, that would feel best for us. Let us know if you have a date in mind, and we’ll let you know what is doable/not doable.

Thanks as always + more soon,

mark

Hi dears,
So. Before I get into a response to your list, I wanted to note that there was an item on my to-do list that I had neglected to include in the hand-off, which was to send you the precise file titles for the grant application screenshots  so that each file could be appropriately titled in its caption.
When I looked into the materials that we had sent though, I saw that these files already have their original date and timestamp in their filenames, so it is just a matter of using these filenames in the layout. Let me know if you have any questions, or if this makes sense.

Next, to follow up on your list:
1. Pitch mock-up. If it is possible to send near to or by the end of the month, that would be great. It doesn’t need to be final or perfect, it’s just to convey how amazing the project will look to potential publishers, so it is more to sell the project than to fix anything in stone. If it’s also possible to include a few screenshots of the website that would be helpful as well.

2. I need to confirm this with Lauren, but on my side a January launch would be ideal. Does that feel realistic as something to work towards?

Hope Farah has a good and well-deserved vacation.
Hugs,
Josh

Hello all,

How wonderful that we are moving forward!

I agree with Josh that having the pitch mock up by the end of the month would be terrific. I’m going to do a major push to European publishers/distributors in the hopes that the book can circulate far and wide. We have our sights set on Sternberg or Spector.

January sounds good to me for the launch! I have put in a grant to visit Berlin in early November so that Josh and I can review the proofs together. Would it be possible to have them by then?

Thank you,
Lauren

Hi Josh and Lauren,

Thanks for this.

I will check in this morning with the team and hope to have updates for you soon.

Hi Josh and Lauren,

Mini follow-up.

Josh, thanks for sharing precise file titles for grant application screenshots.

For the pitch deck, how many pages are you aiming for? For website content, would a Figma design file work (this would be a mock-up, not real content)? We could include some screen grabs from this, although again it is not the real content.

Lauren, what are your Berlin dates in November? Unfortunately, it’s highly unlikely that a finished proof would be ready by then. I think our plan is to review some paper tests with Farah when she is back on October 8. At that point, we could probably get paper/sample tests for you to review together in early November, but not a final proof. When it is time to do printer proofs, we could request a few copies so that both of you could have copies to review, even though you won’t physically be in the same space together. Let us know what you think!

All the best + more soon,

mark

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your email. I’ve responded below for clarity.

Merci encore,
L

I think that we should have no more than 5 pages from you for the proposal, and I don’t think that the web aspect needs to include real content - the screen grab looks good to me. If you could give us a presentation that touches lightly on the design concept as it relates to the book, featuring the covers, some image samples and some text, that would be great.

Sorry for the confusion, I don’t think that I was using the word “proofs” correctly. For past books I have worked on there is a point where the designer shares a PDF of the whole book and then I go through marking any typos and notes digitally for incorporation into the final proof. This is the stage that I envisioned Josh and I doing together so that we could ideally keep it to 1 or 2 rounds.

I would probably be in Berlin the first week of November, but haven’t heard back from the grant yet.

Hi Lauren,

Thanks for this. I will check in with the team this week about your timeline question (about potentially having digital copies to proofread in early November).

For now, here is the pitch deck! We hope you like it. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Re-bonjour Lauren,

I spoke with the team. We think early November for digital proofs for proofreading is highly likely!

Hope this is helpful,

dear all,
the pitch looks amazing!! I am super happy to see it. Thank you for turning this around so quickly.
Thank you also for making it possible for us to have a digital proof by early november, it would be super if that would work out.
I do have one note, not for the pitch but for the publication.
On the spread with Teresa's intro, her email includes text in bold that needs to be redacted. Please redact the text after times of year for the gallery (what is currently in all caps) until the end of that paragraph. I just don't think that Teresa would want this information to be made public.
If you could replace the allcaps segment with a black bar, that would be much appreciated.
thank you all so much, and I look forward to the next steps.
warmest greetings from Sackville,
Josh

Hi all,

That’s great news that digital proofs might be ready in early November!

And thank you for this wonderful presentation!

Would it be at all possible to substitute Teresa’s text sample for Marina Vishmidt? I am hoping to argue for this book’s international relevance and want to highlight Marina’s contribution. I think it will make a huge difference - apologies that I did not point this out from the beginning.

With care,
Lauren

Hi everyone,

Josh, we’ve made a note of your redaction edit for Teresa’s intro. Merci!

Lauren, here is the revised pitch deck. Merci + good luck!

Please let us know if you have any questions.

Wishing you both a regenerative weekend,
