Hi Lauren!

Soooo…. A quick message to say that Mariane sent me an update to her bio, but I can’t integrate it into the proof because I spilled tea on my computer 😖 and I’m waiting for it to dry out to see how bad it is… (at the moment it will not start up).

There aren’t significant other changes to the proof beyond the corrections already made (and sent) to House9, but I can’t integrate this update without a working computer, and since I’ll be away Thurs-Sat, and can’t count on my computer working without a trip to a repair shop, I probably won’t be able to work on the proof further before they are back on Monday.

Here is Mariane’s updated bio, in any case.

Maybe the first step would be to decide whether or not to include it, and then, if so, to check it over for errors? Mariane also said we could edit it for length.

Mariane Bourcheix-Laporte is a cultural policy scholar with a creative practitioner background who specializes in the study of organizational and governance issues in the Canadian cultural sector. Mariane completed a PhD in Communication (2025) and an MFA in Interdisciplinary Arts (2012) at Simon Fraser University, Vancouver, BC. Her PhD dissertation maps the history of artist-run centres in British Columbia in relation to evolving cultural governance processes and apparatuses at federal and provincial levels and within artist-run networks. She is presently Co-Director, with Mary Elizabeth Luka and Claudia Sicondolfo of the Archives in Action: Canadian Audiovisual Archives Policy project, which mobilizes a cross-Canada network to address key policy issues affecting marginalized audiovisual archives in Canada at local, regional, and national levels. Her research on Canadian cultural policy, artist-run organizations, and the intersections of digital technologies with arts management has been published in the Canadian Journal of Communication, ESSACHESS: Journal of Communication Studies, and various anthologies. Mariane has served on the board of directors of the Pacific Association of Artist-Run Centres, VIVO Media Arts Centre, and Aphotic Theatre. Mariane has worked as the lead consultant on various sectoral and community research projects commissioned by national and provincial arts service organizations including Artist-Run Centres and Collectives Conference (ARCA), Independent Media Arts Alliance (IMAA), Canadian Artists’ Representation/Front des artistes Canadiens (CARFAC), and Regroupement des centres d’artistes autogérés du Québec (RCAAQ). She has contributed to revising the CARFAC–RAAV and IMAA fee schedules and was responsible for developing IMAA’s Online Presentation Standards for Media Arts project.

Oh dear! I’m sorry to hear about your computer - that is such a bummer. If you do have to buy a new one, at least you might be able to wait until you go to Vancouver and get it cheaper there!

Mariane’s bio is so impressive! I’ve made a very very small edit (see below) and I think the best thing would be just to send this to the H9 team and explain that it should replace the existing bio. They will incorporate the change on their end. Happy to send that message if you like!

Dear Lauren,

Thank you. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to wait until I get to Vancouver, but I’m also not (emotionally) prepared to put my computer to rest just yet. I’m leaving it in a state of Schrödinger’s cat potentiality until I return on Saturday evening. For the bio, I know, it’s so impressive! Thanks for the trim, and if you’d be able / willing to update h9 with this it would be much appreciated.
