A quick follow-up question, and apologies if I missed something in our meeting notes. For printing budget, I see in our April 25 meeting notes that you mentioned having 10k for printing budget. In our June 20 meeting notes, I'm seeing 8k (taxes included) as the printing budget.

thanks for the nudge and as always apologies for being slow to answer.

We sort of discussed this a bit when we met in person on friday.

Ideally, the printing costs should not exceed $10,000 CAD all in, but there are certain necessities that need to be achieved for the book to be successful, which, if they are impossible without going slightly above $10,000, so be it. 

In friday's meeting we laid out some priorities.

the top priority is lay-flat binding. If it is possible to get a layflat bound book under $10,000, that would be best, even if it needed to be entirely grayscale. The team is looking into printing in the EU, and hopefully we get some quotes that might allow for colour AND layflat binding under 10,000, but let's see what they find out. If we printed in the EU I could send things by mail or we could carry things over to Canada. 

So let's see what the options are before we go too far over my limits.

This morning, we met with reputedly "the best" art book printer in Europe (possibly the world) and the rep was lovely. When we were IRL, I thought you had said 10, possibly 12K Euros since that's the currency you're in, but let's see what the printer proposes. On that budget, it almost sounded like we could have everything: fancy cover, graphite, colour, offset, lay-flat.... so fingers crossed! If you need to return to 12K CAD, we'd be at 8K Euro, so we can start cutting back on certain things...

that's so great that the meeting with the printer rep was great!

I am reluctant to compromise on some aspects of the book (lay-flat), but willing to compromise on others. The budget is flexible to the extent that I want a nice (ie fantastic) book, and want to know what we can do within each price point.

And yes we have some "tricks" up our sleeve that keeps lay flat intact, so I'm sure we'll arrive somewhere stunning!
