Hi Bopha,

This is such great news – thank you for being such an ongoing supporter of this project. It means a lot. Let us know if you would like to have a video call at some point to chat about your likes and dislikes for book launches.

In the meantime, I am going to write a travel grant this week to see if the CCA will support my and Josh’s travel, along with all the books with will be lugging. If you are able, we’d be grateful to receive two letters of support to include in that application. Also, if it is at all possible for you to offer a speakers fee, I know that it would greatly lubricate our application, no matter how small. I’ve drafted some text below but please feel free to edit it!

Thank you again,
Lauren

Draft letter to Josh

Dear Joshua Schwebel

Re: Letter of confirmation - Joshua Schwebel

We are thrilled to host the launch of The Employee at the Libby Leshold Gallery on June 5, 2025.

The launch will feature a presentation of the publication and email archive, with yourself, co-editor Lauren Wetmore, and contributors Bopha Chhay and Mariane Boucheix-Laporte, followed by a public reception. We are looking forward to presenting this powerful project, and to supporting your participation as a speaker and as the lead artist in this project.

The Employee explores the conditions of cultural work in artist-run culture in Canada. Given the increasing precarity of the arts and of public funding programs, this publication is an essential contribution to urgent contemporary dialogues in defence of public arts funding and artist-run employment. Featuring contributions by yourself, Wetmore, Camille-Zoé Valcourt-Synott, Teresa Carlesimo, Dana Kopel, Bopha Chhay, Denise Ryner, Mariane Bourcheix-Laporte, Michelle Lacombe, and Marina Vishmidt, with graphic design by House9 design, this publication offers penetrating insight into the political pressures preconditioning artistic autonomy.

For your contribution to the launch, we are able to oer you a speaker’s fee of $…., and will also promote the launch throughout our networks in Vancouver and across Canada. Please let us know if you have any questions. We are greatly looking forward to working with you.

Sincerely,

Hi Lauren, Josh,

I'd be happy to finalize these letters for you. When do you need them? I'm currently writing our CC core operating grant which is due on April 2.
