Morisot details

Morning Josh!

After reaching out to a friend in the know about how to credit images in the public domain, I was  doing a final polish of the Caillebotte and Morisot image captions and realised that the information I am using for the Morisot image doesn’t correspond with what is ‘Work Becomes Her”.

In the essay we have it as “Wet Nurse and Julie” and 1879 but the image caption as  "Nourrice et bébé (Wet Nurse and Baby or The Wet Nurse Angèle feeding Julie Manet)” and 1880

There does seem to be a lot of discrepency on the title and date of this work, which isn’t helped by it being in a private collection. For our purposes,  which date and title should we use?

Hi Lauren,
Thanks for catching that! I also had found this confusing, but having encountered the work via the Nochlin article, I assumed that a proper art historian as Nochlin would know better than an imposter such as myself in collaboration with a google search, and thus maintained the title she used.
I am ok with either of the titles you suggested. But I really don’t know what is “correct”!
Can I also give you a call momentarily? I have a few questions / concerns about if I am taking overly large swings in Work Becomes Her.
x
