Michelle Lacombe lives and works in Tiohtiá:ke/Montréal in Canada, where she also grew up. After obtaining her BFA from Concordia University in 2006, she developed a rigorous body-based practice that generally takes the form of either short-duration performance art actions, or long-term research-based projects rooted in conceptual embodiement and corporeal transformation. Her work has been shown in Canada, the USA, Mexico, Argentina, and Europe in the context of performance events, exhibitions, lectures and public interventions.

Her artistic practice is paralleled by a commitment to supporting independent, live, and undisciplined forms of art making. She has worked in Montréal artist-run centres for over 15 years, most notably articule and La Centrale, and has been involved in coordinating a number of ad hoc collective projects including Legs, a pop-up performance platform that has been active since 2015. Since 2011, she is the director of VIVA! Art Action, an international performance art festival that recently celebrated its eight edition.
