Dear Farah, Louis, and Miranda,
Thank you so much for our meeting yesterday. We are really pleased with the design concept, and excited by the decisions you have made around images, text, endnotes, and in particular your solution for integrating the contracts into the front and back cover. It all feels very exciting.
We've taken some moments together to thinking concretely about the silver element and would like to ask if there is a way that your art direction can be maintained while removing or changing this aspect?
Our concern is that the use of silver, as well as some of you proposed applications of it, are too similar to Broken Relations. If The Employee was not so directly in relationship with it, this would not be such an issue, but both books are covering very similar topics and even share a contributor. Ideally, we are hoping The Employee will reach the Broken Relations readership who will recognize the crossover in the use of silver.
We have huge respect for what you have presented to us, and the hope that it can be maintained with this one alteration in mind.
I've attached some photos of Broken Relations for your reference. Let us know if you would like another meeting, or if there is any further clarity we can bring to this note.
With very best,
Lauren
